Itinerary
Day 1 — Cusco / Ollantaytambo / Aguas Calientes / Machu Picchu / Ollantaytambo / Cusco
- 4:00 am: Time to visit Machu Picchu! Early pick-up from your hotel in Cusco and private transportation to the Ollantaytambo train station.
- 6:10 am: Board the panoramic train toward Aguas Calientes, enjoying the changing scenery from the Andean highlands through the Vilcanota River valley and into the cloud forest.
- 8:00 am (approx.): Arrive in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu. Meet your guide and walk to the bus station for the ascent to the citadel.
- 8:30 am: Take the bus for approximately 30 minutes up the mountain to Machu Picchu.
- 9:00 am: Enter Machu Picchu and begin your guided tour of the citadel. Over approximately 2 to 3 hours, explore the main sectors of the site, including its temples, plazas, terraces and ceremonial areas.
- 12:00 pm: Finish your guided visit and take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.
- 1:00 pm: Free time in Aguas Calientes for lunch and to explore the town before your return train.
- 2:55 pm: Board the panoramic train back toward Ollantaytambo, enjoying the scenery along the Sacred Valley.
- 4:30 pm (approx.): Arrive at Ollantaytambo train station, where your private transportation will be waiting for the journey back to Cusco.
- 7:00 pm (approx.): Arrive back at your hotel in Cusco, marking the end of your Machu Picchu Full Day experience.
