How difficult is the Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain Tour?
It’s a moderate to challenging day tour mainly because of the altitude. The hiking itself is shorter and generally less strenuous than the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain hike, but you’ll still be walking at elevations above 4,000 m / 13,000 ft.

How high is Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain?
The main Palccoyo viewpoint is approximately 4,900 m / 16,076 ft above sea level. Because of the altitude, acclimatization is strongly recommended.

How long is the hike at Palccoyo?
The hiking route is approximately 6 km / 3.7 mi in total. The trail is relatively gradual, with several viewpoints and stops along the way.

What is the difference between Palccoyo and Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain?
Palccoyo offers several colorful mountain formations and is generally less crowded than Vinicunca. The hike is also shorter and less steep, making it a good alternative for travelers who want to experience the colorful Andean landscapes without the more demanding Vinicunca route.

Yes. On clear days, the route provides impressive views toward Ausangate, one of the highest and most important mountains in the Cusco region.

Do I need to be acclimatized before visiting Palccoyo?
Yes. Although the hike is shorter than Vinicunca, the altitude is very high. Spending a few days acclimatizing in Cusco or another high-altitude destination before the tour is strongly recommended.

Is Palccoyo easier than Vinicunca?
Yes, generally. Palccoyo involves less steep hiking and a shorter walking route, making it a more accessible alternative. However, the altitude remains a major factor, so it should not be considered an easy hike.

Can I rent a horse at Palccoyo?
