Itinerary
Day 1 — Cusco / Ccolca / Llaqto / Rainbow Mountain / Red Valley / Cusco
- 4:00 am: Time to hike Rainbow Mountain! Early pick-up from your hotel in Cusco and departure toward the South Valley, traveling through traditional Andean communities and mountain landscapes.
- 6:30 am: Arrive in Ccolca and stop for breakfast. Take some time to eat and prepare for the high-altitude hike ahead.
- 7:15 am: Continue by vehicle toward Llaqto, the town at the trailhead. From here, you’ll begin the hike toward Rainbow Mountain.
- 8:00 am: Start the hike from Llaqto, gradually climbing through the high-altitude landscape toward Vinicunca. Along the way, enjoy views of llamas, alpacas, surrounding mountains and the Ausangate range.
- 10:30 am: Arrive at Rainbow Mountain (5,020 m / 16,466 ft), where you’ll have time to rest, take photos and enjoy panoramic views of the famous multicolored slopes and surrounding Andes.
- 11:15 am: Continue toward the Red Valley, following the trail through the dramatic red-colored mountains surrounding Vinicunca.
- 12:00 pm: Explore the Red Valley and take time to appreciate the contrasting colors of the landscape, with views toward Rainbow Mountain and the surrounding peaks.
- 12:45 pm: Begin the descent back toward Llaqto, following the mountain trail and taking time to enjoy the scenery along the way.
- 2:30 pm: Arrive back in Llaqto and board the vehicle for the return journey.
- 3:30 pm: Enjoy lunch and take some time to rest after the hike.
- 4:15 pm: Begin the return journey to Cusco.
- 6:00 pm (approx.): Arrive back at your hotel in Cusco, marking the end of your Rainbow Mountain experience.
